31st March 2019 marked the end of the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) Scheme for new Solar Photovoltaic (PV) installations. If you had an installation commissioned on or before the 31st March 2019, you need apply for the FiT as soon as you can.
Our team wouldn’t normally carry out solar PV installations during the winter months due to less favourable weather conditions and reduced daylight, however over the last 3 months, we installed 19 systems to make sure our customers didn’t miss out.
Whilst we might have wished that the scheme had been administrated in a better way, it is difficult to argue that the scheme had not delivered. It has reduced the cost of solar PV installations, making installations more affordable then ever. In 2011 the price for an installation was approximately £18,000, for a similar installation today the cost would now be between £5,500 and £6,500 + VAT.
Solar has a bright future; our installations are still going strong! We are delighted to see solar PV being specified for more and more new build projects and we have plenty of PV installations coming up.
The government had proposed a replacement for the FiT – the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG). We are awaiting the outcome of the government consultation and timescales on launch. Also, solar battery storage looks to be a popular option with future solar installations.
We will keep you up-dated with what happens next!
