We were contacted by Gail and John who were building their new Passive home in Fen Drayton. They liked the idea of being self-sufficient and were interested in a renewable heating solution to meet the family’s energy demands.
Roly and Shane visited Gail and John to look at the designs for the new build and to discuss different economical and environmentally friendly options.
After discussing the customer’s requirements a 9kW Solar PV array, 2 Solar Thermal Panels and a 5kW Air Source Heat Pump was recommended to meet the family’s energy requirements.
A ReAqua unit was also installed which will reduce the family’s water consumption by a third. This unique system can also recover the heat from bath and shower water, transferring it to the buildings hot water system.
Mike also installed a Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery system (MVHR). The building was built well insulated and MVHR helps the home to ‘breath’ in an economical way. MVHR provides a home with filtered fresh air in every room, all day every day. The system keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer and remaining odours, moisture and airbourne pollutants particularly useful for allergy suffers.
With these different renewable technologies combined, Gail and John will have low energy bills and will turn their energy consumption in to a financial income with the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) and Feed-in Tarrif (FIT).
