Installation:
– Mitsubishi EcoDan 8.5kW Air Source Heat Pump
– 250 litre pre-plumber cylinder
Location:
Wardy Hill, Ely, Cambridgeshire
Project details:
Wardy Hill is in a beautiful part of the Cambridgeshire fens. Retired Commissioned Officer, Jonny has lived here for more than 4 years and top of his bucket list was to build his very own house.
Once planning approval was granted on the land behind his home, the fun began!
Jonny bought his architect plans into our office in Witchford, Ely to see what heating options were available. A fossil fuel system such as a gas or oil boiler wasn’t even a consideration for Jonny as he wanted his first new build to be as environmentally friendly as possible. After looking at different heat pumps available, Jonny decided to go with a Mitsubishi EcoDan. With a great reputation, a ‘whisper-quiet’ status and high efficiency, Jonny also loved how cool the system looked compared to others on the market.
Throughout the installation we worked with other local trades including plumbers, carpenters and electricians to ensure the project ran smoothly.
The Mitsubishi heat pump was installed accurately in the garden and has been nicknamed the ‘Boeing 747 Turbine’. The purpose-built cockpit (or plant room) houses the cylinder, buffer tank, expansion tank and underfloor heating manifolds. Jonny is amazed at how neat and splendid all the equipment looks.
Now the new build is coming to an end, it is fantastic to see Jonny’s vision come to life and we’ve enjoyed bouncing ideas off of each other throughout the project. Each and every part of the house has had so much attention to detail. Jonny has carried out a considerable amount of the build himself and is proud of what he has achieved, rightly so. A familiar theme of grey runs throughout the beautiful home. The elegant floor tiles in the bathroom expertly complement the wall tiles. From one of the master bedrooms you can see the iconic Ely Cathedral- a view we enjoy from our offices too!
Jonny is delighted with how efficient the heat pump is and how stealth quiet the system is when running. He is proud to have built a home which has a renewable heating system, a low carbon footprint and already the home is future proofed.
Mission complete! Bucket list ticked!
Jonny has enjoyed the experience so much that he is waiting for planning approval to build another house, this time though – he may keep it for himself!
As the Government funding (Renewable Heat Incentive) is coming to an end in March 2021, he is hoping to have the house built in time to take full advantage of the scheme which can reimburse between 50 and 100% of the costs of the heat pump installation, either over a 7 year period (domestic), or 20 years with the non-domestic (commercial) scheme.
