- NIBE 8kW Air Source Heat Pump
- NIBE SMO 20 Controller
- Hot water cylinder
- New radiators
Back in 2016 we installed a solar photovoltaic system for Norman to reduce his energy bills. We enjoyed working with him then and was delighted to hear from him again when he decided to modernise his family home. Top of Norman’s ‘to-do’ list was to replace his current gas central heating system with something more environmentally friendly.
Roly visited Norman’s home in Histon, Cambridge and confirmed an 8kW NIBE air source would be a suitable solution to provide his heating and hot water. The best bit – Norman’s solar system will provide most of the electricity to run the new renewable heating system.
The installation of the heat pump, cylinder and controls took our engineers just a week. Norman is enjoying being fossil fuel free and is benefiting from reduced energy bills AND earnings from the Government’s Renewable Heat Incentive annually for 7 years.
“In planning for modernising a 1980’s house, I wondered if it was possible to retro-fit an air or ground source heating system.
Having used Eco Installer to install my solar PV system they were naturally the first company I approached. They carried out a survey and to my surprise not only was it feasible to fit an air source heating system but it was also practical to do so as well.
The only changes to the inside of the house were to increase some of the radiator sizes, but as this was achieved by using double radiators it has had no impact on the look of the rooms.
The system has been running for two weeks and with the cold weather, contractors leaving doors and windows open all day whilst other work is carried out, the house been pleasantly warm in the evenings and overnight.
Being a pressurised system the shower is more powerful and is a pleasure to use especially with all the hot water being produced.
Several of the contractors have commented on the neatness of the installation and the warmth. Retro-fitting an air source system is therefore something I would recommend considering when changing your heating system.”
